Enabling Telnet on the o2 Joggler

Since o2 have reduced the price of the Joggler it seems to become very popular in the hacking community and some people have Ubuntu Netbook Remix installed.  To start off with your hacking exploits you have to enable Telnet and a user going by the name Quinten on Joggler.info has written an automated script to do this for you.
Download the files needed – http://www.mediafire.com/?nyxgejo2odj
  1. Unpack the files you downloaded to the root of a compatible USB stick, the USB stick has to be formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 format. There should be 4 files present: .sum (might be hidden), opupdt.run, opupdt.tgz and boothacks.
  2. Turn off the Joggler
  3. Insert USB stick
  4. Power up Joggler
  5. Wait for the Joggler to load and now you can remove the USB stick
To see if the Joggler can be accessed via Telnet:

Go to Start > Run > Type in Telnet and in the black box type in open 192.168***** (Your Joggler IP) for the password enter letmein.

If you get an error from Windows saying the Telnet command has not been recognised it needs to be installed via the Windows Components option.  Or the other problem could be the Joggler has not got Telnet enabled because it cannot read the USB stick; a small test you can do to determine if your USB stick is compatible is copy across some pictures/videos and see if you can view them on your Joggler.

Now you can add custom games, live BBC streams on my next post I will show you how to add the custom apps.

Since this step my wireless connection is complaining that my 10 character wifi password should be at least 8 characters long… any idea why this would cause a wireless connection failure?

Also many of the icons such as BBC1 when completing the PMJ install don’t respond to touch events.

Guess I can’t flash the device back to factory state now, any ideas for a solution?

Sorry for the late reply and issue you seem to be having have you tried doing a re-flash to see if that rectifies the issue. When I first did mine I had BBC2 permanently playing on page 2 of my Joggler but a re-flash sorted that issue.

Hi, what if the USB stick is recognised and can copy over images etc, but will not for some reason install telnet upon reboot?

  1. No trackbacks yet.
